TheSource Feed - Mon, 10/09/2017 - 2:46pm

Chance The Rapper used the power of Instagram to livestream a traffic stop in Chicago on Sunday, October 8. In the video, Chance is seen in the passenger seat while his significant other Kirsten Corley is in the driver’s seat.

“Just want y’all to be here in case it gets out of hand,” Chance explains in the video. “Should be good though. Should be straight…I have great faith in humanity and the men and women that put on the badge, but, you know, you can’t be too careful.”

“But policing as a system is disproportionately racist and oppressive,” he continued. “I ain’t got no [gun] in the car, no drugs in the car. Nothing going on, just came back from church.”

Chance and Corley were pulled over with their daughter in the car for a moving violation at approximately 1pm. Nothing other than a warning was issued.

Marlon Wayans and Busta Rhymes attended the official re-opening of LIV nightclub in Miami to celebrate Jeezy’s birthday. It was a star-studded event with Teyana Taylor and Wilmer Valderrama in attendance. But the highlight of the night was outside.

Marlon and Busta got into a hilarious rap battle outside and let’s just say the comedian killed the rap legend with one bar: “You look like black Shrek”. (Sorry Bus) Looks like Nick Cannon needs to tap into these two and get them on an episode of Wild ‘n Out.

Check out the full battle above.

Odell Beckham Jr Breaks Ankle, Season and Pay Day In Doubt

TheSource Feed - Mon, 10/09/2017 - 9:43am

Words by Jason Corder

Odell Beckham Jr. suffered a fractured ankle in New York’s 27-22 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, the Giants announced. Beckham will undergo an MRI to see if there is any ligament damage.

Late in the fourth quarter, Beckham went up for a catch, was hit in the air by a Los Angeles Chargers defender, and came down under the defender, his ankle bending underneath the defender’s body.

That's a season ender for Odell Beckham Jr. pic.twitter.com/hp6aO7JeMe

Odell Beckham has just been carted off with what appears to be a serious left ankle injury. pic.twitter.com/hME51M4Ii0

— 247Sports (@247Sports) October 8, 2017

The Giants, who made the playoffs last season after an 11-5 campaign, are one of only three winless teams in the NFL. It’s unclear how long OBJ will be out for. His injury came on the same afternoon that the Giants also lost wide receivers Brandon Marshall and Sterling Shephard to injuries.

No estimated time table to when we can expect Odell back on the field. Many believe his season is pretty much over. The sad part in all this is OBJ expressed his desire to be the highest paid NFL player.

This was supposed to be the season that Beckham took his incredible talents to another level. Nike signed him to the highest-paid shoe contract in NFL history this summer, but this injury puts all his touchdown celebrations and brand building on the shelf.

In a league filled with drama, OBJ brought some excitement, style, and grace to the Giants and the sport itself.

Uncle Luke Honored BET’s I Am Hip Hop Award, Throws Shade At No One

TheSource Feed - Mon, 10/09/2017 - 9:43am

Words by Ime Ekpo

This past Friday, the 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards got live in Miami with DJ Khaled serving as the host of the show.

Oddly, Hip-Hop veterans frequently get snubbed of awards and honors that are presented by big-time music industry hubs. Finally, after 35 years Luther Campbell best known as Uncle Luke is being honored with the 2017 BET I Am Hip Hop Influence Award.

Also considered by Hip-Hop heads as the “Black Hugh Hefner” or “King of Dirty Rap,” Uncle Luke is iconic for his erotic melodies as the lead of legendary Miami collective 2 Live Crew with songs in the likes of “Me So Horny”, “C’mon Babe”, “I Wanna Rock” and many more timeless bangers.

The Miami icon is also very pivotal to the movement of Hip-Hop lyrical censorship, as his publicly vocal rhetoric defending the expression and his censorship battle with the Supreme Court in the early 90s for his 2 Live Crew Album, Banned in the USA, broke barriers for the unapologetic use of necessary explicit lyrics in Hip-Hop music.

It appears there was a massive misinterpretation about what the Doo Doo Brown rocker said during his acceptance speech for the I Am Hip Hop Influence Award. Reports went viral about how Luke made some dissenting comments about Funkmaster Flex & Kool DJ Red Alert during his speech. According to Luke, his teleprompter went out so he “shot from the hip.” He went on to say in an Instagram video post, “Some people may have misinterpreted it as I said something bad about Funkmaster Flex and DJ Red Alert. No, those are my guys. What you should have heard was Funkmaster Flex broke my music in fucking New York. You should have heard, Red Alert is my friend for life who gave me the name Uncle Luke…”

Let me set the record straight if anyone misinterpreted my speech at the BET Awards last night that I said something bad about @funkflex #djredAlert your FUCKING WORNG what I was trying to say was when everybody else was shiting on me Funkmaster Flex broke my music in New York along with DJ Red Alert giving me my name I will always be grateful to those guys. If anyone knows me they know that I do not make Corrections with what I say I wear that shit on my shoulder.

A post shared by LUTHER CAMPBELL (@unclelukereal1) on Oct 7, 2017 at 6:25am PDT

And it appears Kool DJ Red Alert is not sweating the rumor, as he liked and replied under Luke’s post of clarity: “Good Day @unclelukereal1 Respect For The Acknowledgement & Shout Out My Friend, It’s Also A Pleasure Giving You The Title “Uncle Luke” #ForEverFriends.”

Welp. It sure is amazing to witness Hip-Hop legends embrace one another’s greatness and acknowledge each other’s contributions to their own legacies. Perhaps, new school cats can learn a lesson on how to build strong friendships with one another, for the sake of the longevity and weight of their cultural influence.

T-Mac aka Tracy McGrady Rejoins The Orlando Magic In a New Role

Words by Jason Cordner

Basketball Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady has rejoined an organization that he had a lot of success with, the Orlando Magic.

The Orlando Magic announced on Friday that McGrady will join the front office as a special advisor to CEO Alex Martins. McGrady will work with players and coaches, advise the front office and help in promotional activities for the G League’s Lakeland Magic.

“I am thrilled to be back where I truly made a name for myself — with the Orlando Magic,” McGrady said in a statement. “The DeVos family and the entire organization have always done everything in a first-class manner and I am excited to be able to help them with whatever they may need.”

RELEASE: Magic name Naismith Hall-of-Famer Tracy McGrady special assistant to the CEO#PureMagic#LetsGoMagic pic.twitter.com/WmRNWk3H1U

— Orlando Magic PR (@Magic_PR) October 6, 2017

Tracy McGrady spent four seasons with the Magic from 2000-2004, and won two scoring titles during his tenure there. He also led them to three playoff appearances, before he continued his playing career with the Houston Rockets. Along with his new responsibilities for the Magic, McGrady will continue his role with ESPN as an NBA analyst.

T-Mac has a great pulse for talent evaluation. At his ESPN NBA analyst role, McGrady breaks down the good and bad of today’s NBA product. Bringing him back to an organization looking to build on young talent, feels like an organic fit.

McGrady will have the opportunity to help the team reach a lot of success in the future. He may not have won a title, but he can still do his part in helping his organization reach a level of success that eluded him as a player.

Viola Davis and Larry Wilmore link up for ABC’s new comedy “Black Don’t Crack”

TheSource Feed - Sat, 10/07/2017 - 11:10pm

Words by Jiggy Jones

On a network where black comedy has taken over primetime television, ABC will add another one. (*DJ Khaled Voice*)

It’s simple. The skin of African Americans does not wrinkle and show age as much as people from other ethnic backgrounds. Look at Angela Basset (59), Jada Pinkett-Smith (46) and the entire female cast of The Best Man and The Best Man Holiday.

BDC will shine the light on the older black female experience. Three sorority sisters reunite after years of separation since their glorious days in college. They understand that although life is rough in adulthood, there is nothing like having your sisters there to pick you up when you need it the most.

ABC’s new comedy parallels Summer ‘17’s box office hit Girls Trip, only this reunion doesn’t include a hysterical get-away to Essence Music Festival.

The show will be written and executive produced by Insecure’s, Regina Hicks, and Larry Wilmore. Wilmore’s hand has touched several black TV classics such as In Living Color, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, The Jamie Foxx Show, Bernie Mac Show and recently Black-ish and Insecure.

Academy award winning actress Viola Davis continues her winning streak in both the box office and primetime television. Catch her emmy-winning performance as the star of ABC’s How to Get Away with Murder.

Hicks writing and production credits include, Sister Sister, Girlfriends and Marlon.

This well-seasoned production crew will have the job to fill out the cast with some heavy hitters. Will Hicks call on Insecure’s Amanda Seales and Yvonne Orji for ABC’s new black sitcom? Comedian and actress Tiffany Haddish could be thrown into the pot of names as well to fill out cast of sisters. The producers will have their hands full.

Whomever it is, gear up for another win in the golden era of Black primetime Television.

When Hip-Hop Legends Attack: Black Thought and Method Man Serve Lyrical Madness

TheSource Feed - Sat, 10/07/2017 - 10:52pm

You are going to need to place a sweat rag on your head for this one.

There is almost nothing more fulfilling to the hardcore hip-hop head than bearing witness to not just one…but two notable lyricists busting a freestyle on the mic.

In lieu of promoting their new show, HBO’s The Deuce, the beyond talented Black Thought of The Roots and high-powered MC of the Wu-Tang Clan Method Man stopped by Sway in the Morning and tripped into a cypher.

On The Deuce, Black Thought plays a pimp by the name of Reggie Love who once served in the Vietnam War and happens to be highly versed in politics with a strong opinion about the president’s (Nixon) ways and actions. Method Man also plays the role of a pimp known as Rodney who is a personable and pretty fellow with a smooth approach.

Sway in the Morning is infamous for impromptu cyphers, and it was only logical that these two internationally acclaimed lyricists took to the mic and showcased the identity of the Hip-Hop MC.

Spitting over J.I.D.’s “Never” instrumental, the legends got in session. Even though Method Man had to pull out his phone for some bars, the veteran compelled proof that he is sword is still sharp and Black Thought displayed effortless dominance as he flowed taking observers into a trance of captivation. This cypher is in the ranks as being one of the best of 2017.

“My consciousness was immaculate before the packages
Now we the advocates for every sort of sacrilege”

Black-Ish creator Kenya Barris pairs up with Grown-ish writers for “Bright Futures”

TheSource Feed - Sat, 10/07/2017 - 10:32pm

Words by Jillian Bowe

Black-ish showrunner Kenya Barris is once again bringing the funny to ABC. Barris is partnering with three of his writers from the upcoming Grown-ish spinoff for a new ABC comedy, Bright Futures. According to Deadline, Barris along with Hale Rothstein, Danny Segal, and Isaac Schamis, will pen the series, which centers on a group of 20-something friends who are trying to find their way in life and evolve from the silly and clueless people they currently are into thriving, successful professionals they have the ability to become.

Barris will also serve as the executive producer for the project under his Khalabo Ink Society production company, which has netted an overall deal at ABC studios with Rothstein. Segal and Schamis will also board the project as co-executive producers. No word on when Bright Futures will hit airwaves.

2017 has become a huge year for Barris, in addition to being in the fourth season of the highly popular ABC sitcom Black-ish, getting a 12 episode pick up order by Freeform for Grown-ish, and the latest comedy Bright Futures, Barris has also nabbed a huge win this past summer with the smash hit Girls Trip he co-wrote with Tracy Oliver (Barbershop: The Next Cut, Survivor’s Remorse, The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl).

The all-female comedy starring Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah, Regina Hall, and Tiffany Haddish dominated the box office becoming the highest grossing live-action comedy with over $100 million in ticket sales.  Last week it was also announced Barris will be penning a Coming to America sequel. The Hollywood Reporter announced Barris was tapped to rewrite the script of the 1988 film romantic comedy, starring Eddie Murphy as the loveable yet clueless Prince of Zamunda Akeem and Arsenio Hall as his best friend and aide Semmi who travel to Queens, New York in search of a bride.

Tyrese Goes Off On Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Over Upcoming “Fast and Furious” Spinoff

TheSource Feed - Sat, 10/07/2017 - 10:25pm

Words by Jillian Bowe

The Fast and the Furious movie franchise is gearing up for its first spinoff of the hit film series but that hasn’t stopped the behind the scenes drama from playing out in front of the camera.

Actor/singer Tyrese has voiced his displeasure online in the past few weeks over Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s upcoming movie centered around his (Johnson’s) character Luke Hobbs and has accused him of causing the next installment of the action flick to be pushed back to accommodate the former wrestler’s project.

Tyrese who has been part of the past five sequels as Roman Pierce has blamed Johnson for the soon-to-be-titled “F9” film’s release date moved from  April 19, 2019, to a year later on April 10, 2020.  Tyrese hopped on Instagram to call out Johnson, where he posted:

#PSA Congratulations to @TheRock and your brother in law aka 7 bucks producing partner @hhgarcia41 for making the fast and the furious franchise about YOU – And like you, DJ even if they call I will not be deleting this post – Gn folks see you in 2020 April #FastFamily right? Nah….. it's about #TeamDewayne #3yrs will it be worth the wait? #NoShaw just Hobbs will this be another #BayWatch? Guys guys just relax I'm just a passionate film critic

A post shared by TYRESE (@tyrese) on Oct 4, 2017 at 8:29pm PDT

You would think a few days after the outburst on IG Tyrese would’ve cooled down and spoke to Johnson to hash things out. Instead, Tyrese has continued to go after him but this time on Twitter.

After a fan congratulated Johnson on his Hobbs film, Tyrese once again went on the attack.

Like that you’re puttin’ your goals out there in the universe. Now the fun part – puttin’ in the work. Good luck dude https://t.co/YByDTP75RU

— Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) October 6, 2017

Taking the high road, Johnson without addressed Tyrese explained his main purpose when he signed on to the billion-dollar movie franchise.  Unmoved by Johnson’s words, Tyrese claims Johnson’s motivation was to “Break up the fast family.”  Click Here…

Later, Vin Diesel, the lead in the films decided to weigh in on all the drama via Instagram and stated:

Brotherhood… and all it's complexities. This scene was filmed in Puerto Rico, I can remember it like it was yesterday. Such a beautiful island, the people were so warm and welcoming. I turned 43 that summer… and my son Vincent was born. A woman named Jan Kelly responded to a question I had asked on Facebook, 'who they would like to see me work with?' She said would love to see me work with Dwayne… I listened to her request and he became Hobbs. I know there has been a lot of speculation as to why the Fast 9 release date was pushed… but it would be unfair to say it is anyone's fault. As we plot the course to expand the Fast & Furious universe, one must be mindful to take stock of the roads we took to get here. The pillars of authenticity, family and most importantly, our loyal fan’s perspective has been instrumental in procuring success. However, like any vehicle that has run around the globe 8 times, the franchise is in need of maintenance. My good friend and the godfather of Universal, Ron Meyer has granted me the time to do just that. We have some very exciting news to share soon… stay tuned. Yours truly, Dom #FamilyAlways

A post shared by Vin Diesel (@vindiesel) on Oct 6, 2017 at 8:15pm PDT

Doesn’t anyone know how to pick up a phone and call to hash things out? So far, Tyrese or Johnson has yet to respond.

Suge wrote a statement saying that he had a sit down with a private investigator and Johnson, where Johnson admitted that the $20K was a partial payment for the job. This isn’ the first time Suge accused Dre of setting a hit out on him.

In April 2016, a man known as Tee-Money confessed to being one of the gunmen paid $50,000 to off Suge in the 2014 nightclub shooting. However, Dre’s attorney said these allegations were also “ridiculous”.

AIM is Signing Out For Good After 20 Years

TheSource Feed - Fri, 10/06/2017 - 2:53pm

AOL’s long-running instant messaging service will shut down for good on December 15th.

AIM was the core of many 90’s kid’s initial social experiences on the Internet. AOL announced the shutdown today October 6 saying that it’s no longer needed because people communicate on the Internet differently.

AIM tapped into new digital technologies and ignited a cultural shift, but the way in which we communicate with each other has profoundly changed,” writes Michael Albers, communications products VP at Oath (the Verizon behemoth that consumed AOL).

AIM was one of the first most successful instant messengers. But smartphones made it possible to instantly communicate straight from your mobile device. Additionally, the rise of social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat made people talk on their phones instead of their desktops.

Take your last chance to write your final away message in the comments.
