Blac Chyna is Serious About a Rap Career

TheSource Feed - Tue, 11/14/2017 - 6:45am

Since retiring from the stripper pole, Blac Chyna garnered mass success in the video vixen world and gained A-list connections which journeyed her into the chamber of reality television and entrepreneurship. Now she is ready to take on a new career as a rapper.

In a recent interview with XXL, Blac Chyna says she has “reached the highest” of her endeavors and pondered upon what she should get into next. The social personality made a decision between getting into acting or doing music and based the structure of her experience as a vixen to take on a rap career.

Last week, a snippet of an unfinished song recorded by Chyna leaked into the worldwide web and the aspiring rapper displays a blatant trap-music vibe despite naming rappers in the likes of Jay-Z, Drake, and DMX as influences.

She appears to be very comfortable with her decision, being that she can call on her notable industry friends like French Montana and Nicki Minaj every time she needed a helping hand.

I’m already around it and most of the people I already know them anyway, so, it should be really easy for me. I feel like if I do need help or if I need mentoring I could call my friends like French and Nicki or just whoever for advice and whatnot. I feel like it’s the right way to go.

Chyna aims for her music to reflect a vibe that combines her own experience along with present times. “I want to make music that reflects me and what’s going on at that present time,” Chyna reveals to XXL. “You know, It’s kinda like a movie how I’m looking at it. So, if this is happening right now I want to speak on it right then and there, you know.”

Despite owning a goal to make melodies with Rihanna, French Montana, Migos, Gwen Stefani and Trey Songz, Chyna tells XXL that she fears people will not take her seriously. She wishes for all her doubters and supporters to give her a chance, and donate an ear to her future works.

Blac Chyna plans of releasing her first serious track before the end of 2017. Watch Blac Chyna discuss her approaching rap career in its entirety above.

Zendaya Will Play 1st African-American Woman to Graduate From Vassar

TheSource Feed - Mon, 11/13/2017 - 11:29pm

Disney “It” girl, Zendaya is a boss.

Not only is she an bonafide moviestar starring in hit films like Spider-man: Homecoming and its untitled sequel, but she has sprinkled that Black Girl Magic (as a producer and actor) all over the runaway Disney hit KC Undercover.  Clearly, she has caught the bug.

Variety reports that Zendaya is set to star and produce the film A White Lie based on Karin Tanabe’s book, The Gilded Years. The Gilded Years about Anita Hemmings, the first African-American woman to graduate from Vassar College.

Based on a true story, Zendaya will play the lead role of Hemmings. Hemmings story is remarkable. She was the first Black woman to attend and graduate from Vassar College in the 1890’s due to her “white passing” light-skin. Despite being a descendant of former slaves, the story shows that her light skin allowed her to secretly live her life as a white woman. Her skin also afforded her sanctuary as she dodged the perils of racial discrimination and was able to prosper among the elite. However, while attending Vassar, Hemmings’ cover is blown a few weeks before graduation, when her roommate at the institution begins to grow suspicion.

The psychological thriller’s script will be penned by Monica Beletsky.  Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter will be producing A White Lie alongside Zendaya.

Zendaya just can’t seem to slow down. She will also be co-starring in the musical The Greatest Showman in December alongside actors Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron.

Cop A Pair of André 3000’s Daydreams For The Holidays

TheSource Feed - Mon, 11/13/2017 - 11:03pm

Tretorn celebrates 50 years with an exclusive collaboration with ATLien André 3000. Like many rappers have in the past, André has placed his mark on his own collection called “I André Benjamin will not draw in class”. The sneaker comes just in time for the holiday season. ComplexCon attendees were able to catch a sneak peak of the collection earlier this month, where his ‘Candy Cane’ shoe was exclusively launched at the Nylite 50 Artist Series.

Where did this design come from? This particular designed was inspired by André’s own “daydreams sketches”, as well as his own closet. The Outkast member used to rock classic Tretorn Nylites as a kid in Atlanta in the late 80s and early 90s.

“Growing up, we’d all put our personal stamp onto the blank canvas of the Nylite and I’d sketch out my own designs. ” 3000 reminisces “This collaboration felt like fun because it brought me back to that place of personalizing these original designs.”

August Alsina Calls Out Def Jam Over Album Woes

TheSource Feed - Mon, 11/13/2017 - 11:03pm

August Alsina has a lot on his mind, allegedly. Today on Twitter, the singer let off some steam after calling out Def Jam for postponing his album’s release.

“I would love to put my album out but Def Jam is holding it/me hostage because the system is not up & running until next year so they basically don’t exist. The label is just trash. I will release free music soon but that has been the hold up. Tell them to free me and the album,” Alsina tweeted.

Sources say that the album has been pushed back to 2018. However, Alsina has been trying to release it all year. His last album, Thing Called Life, was released almost 3 years ago in late 2015.

The 25-year old has been having a tough year despite the music. In an interview with Jada Pinkett, Alsina revealed that he suffers from a liver disease that leaves him feeling, “like sadness and depression is embedded in (his) DNA.”

There’s also the incident involving Alsina and fans in June where fans accused him of flashing a gun while in a grocery store after denying their advances to interact with him. Reports say he was feeling under the weather and was not in the mood to take pictures. TMZ reported the story last summer but there have  not been any charges filed against him.

Despite it all, the New Orleans-born singer has had a vey trying year in and out of music. While it’s easy to understand why Alsina is frustrated and unhappy about his situation with Def Jam, it is hard to see him blast his label for all of the world to see. As the hip-hop community gears up for major releases in 2018 from big names in music, we’re hoping Alsina will be one of the voices we’re listening out for.

Sy Ari Da Kid Talks Signing To Cash Money, Life On Tour, Remaining True To Himself & More

TheSource Feed - Mon, 11/13/2017 - 9:14pm

Sy Ari Da Kid is not new to the rap game. The Bronx born rapper, who found his musical home in the ATL,  has experience behind production boards and in front of the mic. His lengthy discography shows he’s no rookie to the business and with new projects set to be released, he’s has been and always will be committed to the game. We caught up with Sy Ari while he’s out on tour with 6lack to talk music, signing to Cash Money and so much more.

For those who don’t know, when did you get started?

I started my first business and started producing when I was about 24.

Who was the first person to recognize your talent in music?

I recognized it first and then my brother. I would freestyle around him before I rapped around anybody else so he was the first person who saw my skills in it early on.

Did you grow up in a musical family?

Not really but my brother was a big fan of RZA from Wu-Tang. Also my dad had a Yamaha keyboard that I learned to produce on along with lots of records from artist that he loved. Other than that I didn’t have a musical background or musical mentors. I really started from scratch with it.

Can you talk about your relationship with the Atlanta music scene and how it came about?

Around the time that Lil Jon, Shawty Red, T.I., and Jeezy started getting hot, I was there in Atlanta as they  started dominating the scene. I came up in the following generation. I was a part of one of the biggest open mic events in Atlanta called Battle Ground Mondays. I recorded a lot of hot songs coming out of the south during that time. I was engineering for Roscoe Dash, and Waka Flocka around that time and a lot of people don’t really know that about me. I was there to see people like Travis Porter emerge. That’s when Atlanta really started to grab the world. All of those producers like Mike Will and Sonny Digital, TM88, Metro Boomin, I knew all of those guys early in the game. These are the guys who are running the industry now, sound wise and production wise. I feel like I’m a huge part of the industry because we all created that sound during one time. It shaped alot of music now.

Let’s talk about the evolution of your sound. How has it changed from where you started?

I was born in the Bronx so at first I though everything was just about lyrics and bars. As I started learning the game, I started learning how to produce. I found out that every beat does not have to have a thousand sounds. Artist should have an open space to create his own melody. If there’s no open space in the beat, that’s how my sound kind of evolved. Being a part  of the production and learning how to make my voice become an instrument. I learned cadences, and how to add wit and creativity to make it that much better. Women and kids should like it just as much as the streets. Future is good at that. He makes something the streets want to hear and things the women want to dance to. Then the kids like it because of the melody, and how catchy it is. Musically, I learned as I grew in the game.

What was it like signing to Cash Money and working with Birdman?

Birdman is really cool. As much as he’s accomplished he understands that the youngings are the new wave. He lets me do my thing in the studio. I go in and I record and engineer my music and they respect that.

Who has been your favorite collaboration so far?

I don’t know if I have a favorite collab. I’ve got so many different processes when recording music. I’ve done stuff in studio and some out of it. The song I did with Bryson Tiller, I did that in my kitchen. I emailed it to him he sent it back and we got that running in 20 minutes. I like working with K Camp because we have the same recording process, we have good chemistry in studio. Timbaland was really creative and great to work with. Slim Dunkin was also another favorite for me. There’s so many different ways I’ve collaborated with people.

It seems you have a very efficient energy in the studio. Is that something you’ve developed working first in production and then as an artist?

Yeah, it’s like everything in general. It’s from the practice I put in as an engineer to understanding that everyone doesn’t work the same. I’m on the road right now doing features and I still record my own way. I keep a set-up on my laptop because I have my own preference.

Wire Transfer off of your mixtape 2Soon had an air of honesty. Can we talk about that for a moment?

Everyone that knows me knows I don’t bite my tongue. I’m very understanding to the business. I like to address the elephant in the room. If there’s an issue, I’m always the guys that’s going to address it. When I signed to Cash Money I wasn’t going to pretend I didn’t hear the allegations about Wayne and Birdman. So many people want to come at Birdman because of his success. I wanted to have his back and let it be known that we both know the business. I’m very professional in all settings and so is Birdman.  I think it’s important that artist hear that side of the story as well.

So what’s the meaning behind the title 2SOON?

My first big mixtape was titled Soon. So I wanted to do a sequel. A lot of people say I’m ahead of my time to that’s why I ended up using my son on the cover as well. Metaphorically it represents me knowing I would be in the position that I’m in today. That’s why my son is on the cover wearing my clothes. It’s like being ahead of my time and staying ahead of the game.

This is your first album under Cash Money, followed by 2 Weeks Notice. Have things changed when it comes to who you are as an artist?

People who know me, know that I was the same before my deal. The cars I drive, buying my mom her dream car, all of that I did before my deal. It’s like I did a lot before signing to him. I have the same demeanor. I have the same control over my brand and my music. I always keep my independent grind first.

How has tour been so far?

I’ve waited a long time to be on a tour that had he audience and the energy I was looking for so I like it. Day to day it’s a grind. Tour is unpredictable. You have to adjust on tour. You have to learn how to move, you have to learn how to deal with what comes to you but it’s a blessing. People are loving it so I’m having a good time.

Sy Ari Da Kid is on the brink of his on tour, he will be dropping After The Heartbreak 2, and moving forward under Cash Money. You can keep up with him on Instagram and Twitter at the links.

Carlos Beltran Retires After World Series Win…And 20 MLB Seasons

TheSource Feed - Mon, 11/13/2017 - 8:37pm

Most fans knew this news would be coming, and on Monday it became official: After 20 years in the big leagues, outfielder and designated hitter Carlos Beltran is hanging it up and retiring from the game. He announced his decision on The Players’ Tribune, in a beautiful piece that recalls his long career and the meaningful moments that stood out to him.

The 40 year old former Met is a native of Puerto Rico and broke through to the majors with the Kansas City Royals in 1998, winning Rookie of the Year honors in 1999. He played for seven different teams throughout his career, but had never won a World Series — until he did this year with the Houston Astros. He did have a few close calls, though. He got close in 2013 with the St. Louis Cardinals, and with the New York Mets in 2006.

To win your first World Series in a long career and then retire, it’s a storybook ending to a Hall of Fame career. And it’s one that Beltran was ready for. When Beltran spoke to Yahoo Sports after Game 7 of the World Series, he didn’t explicitly say that he was going to retire, but he admitted that as a 40-year-old designated hitter, his options were limited. As far as making the choice to lay down his glove and bat, he said, “I don’t think it’s gonna be a hard one after winning a World Series.”

But Beltran isn’t ready to leave baseball. He may be done as a player, but he’s got more to give to the game. He’s open to coming back as a coach, and even wants to manage a team someday. In fact, Astros GM Jeff Luhnow has said that having Beltran around this season was like having a player-coach on staff.

Beltran retires with a lifetime .279/.350/.486 triple slash, which includes 2,725 hits, 565 doubles and 435 home runs. He played 2,586 regular season games in the majors, and until he won that World Series, he was one of just three players with more than 2,500 games and no ring.

Enjoy retirement, Carlos. We can’t wait to see what you’ll do next.

Donald Trump Calls Chinese President To Resolve UCLA Shoplifting Incident

TheSource Feed - Mon, 11/13/2017 - 2:31pm

President Donald Trump did something you rarely see him doing: Helping brothers out.

President Donald Trump reportedly personally asked his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, to help resolve the case of three UCLA men’s basketball players who were arrested for shoplifting while in Hangzhou for a tournament last week,” according to David Nakamura of the Washington Post.

Trump arrived in China on a diplomatic visit one day after the UCLA players were arrested. Chief of Staff John F. Kelly has reportedly served as an intermediary between UCLA and Chinese officials in the hopes of bringing the players back to the United States quickly. The players could reportedly stay in the country for a “week or two.”

The State Department typically takes the lead on cases involving U.S. citizens who are arrested abroad, and the U.S. Embassy in Beijing is aware of the case, officials said. UCLA is one of the top basketball programs in the country, and the Ball family has become well known in the sports world, including LiAngelo’s outspoken father, LaVar Ball.

UCLA defeated Georgia Tech 63-60 in China on Friday without the three players, a group that also includes freshmen  Jalen Hill and Cody Riley.

Hopefully Trump’s plea could help with the matters. If convicted, the three players could face up to ten years in prison.

LeBron Takes Shots at Knicks’ Draft Selection, Knicks Players Clap Back

TheSource Feed - Mon, 11/13/2017 - 12:53pm

LeBron James is never one to not speak his mind. Following a victory in Dallas, James felt the need to possibly take one final jab at the New York Knicks old management.

James unleashed what could be considered one final shot at former Knicks president Phil Jackson on Saturday, declaring that Dennis Smith Jr, who the Mavericks selected ninth overall in this year’s draft, “should be a Knick.” The Knicks decided to pass on Smith with what ended up being the final draft pick of Jackson’s tenure as team president, selecting Frank Ntilikina eighth overall.

Lebron: Confirmed Dennis Smith fan pic.twitter.com/zCNbrEAgt8

— Barstool Pack (@BarstoolPack) November 12, 2017

It should be noted that Frank has a different role on the Knicks, plays less minutes and better defense. Kristap Porzingis was asked what he thought about what LeBron said and was quick to defend his point guard.

KP on LeBron: 'I don't know why he said that…I wouldn't trade Frank for anybody '

— Adam Zagoria (@AdamZagoria) November 12, 2017

The defense and playmaking of rookie Frank Ntilikina are a big reason for the surprising early success of the New York Knicks. The rookie is averaging 9.1 assists and 2.7 steals per 36 minutes. His teammates — in this case Enes Kanter — have his back as well.

We love what we got…

— Enes Kanter (@Enes_Kanter) November 12, 2017

Maybe LeBron should worry more about his own team than the Knicks. After all, New York (7-5) has a winning record, something James and the Cavs (5-7). The Cavaliers play the Knicks, on Monday night at the Garden.

No Father To His Style: 10 Iconic Ol’ Dirty Bastard Joints

TheSource Feed - Mon, 11/13/2017 - 12:30pm

The legacy of Ol’ Dirty Bastard is unmatched being that there is no father to his style. Notorious for his gritty themes and raw styling, it is safe to say he is a founding notable of full-fledged unadulterated rapping. Comparatively to that of the raps of legendary underground blaxploitation film actor, Rudy Ray Moore.

Ol’ Dirty Bastard mastered the art of connecting sly lyricism with fractional singing which brought into existence his signature outlandish delivery.

During the 90s, his unorthodox ways on the mic were acceptingly distinct, as he unapologetically tackled subjects in the likes of unprotected sex, the grounds of Brooklyn, drugs, and the swagger of his collective domain the Wu-Tang Clan. This declared Dirty as an undisputed original who chaperoned the hood by shaping his own admirations.

Today, Nov. 13th marks 13 years since the unexpected passing of Ol’ Dirty Bastard. In 2004, he succumbed to a drug overdose, leaving arguably the most emblematic collective in hip-hop history in a physical void.

In honor of Osirus, Dirt McGirt, the O.D.B, here is a list of 10 iconic songs featuring the legend.

Big Daddy Kane “Show & Prove” feat. Scoob, Sauce Money, Shyheim, Jay-Z, and Ol’ Dirty Bastard

Ol’ Dirty got down with the ultimate cypher on Big Daddy Kane’s “Show & Prove” displaying his abrasive lyrical front, representing his clan.

Wu-Tang Clan “Shame on a Nigga”

Coming off of Wu-Tang’s supremely influential debut album, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), is perhaps, one of Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s most notable lines, “Shame on a nigga who try to run game on a nigga,” which evolved into a landmarking Wu phrase.

Ol’ Dirty Bastard “Brooklyn Zoo”

The genius of Dirt McGirt is utilized as makes the decision to “drop science like girls be dropping babies” to prove the livelihood of his Brooklyn stance.

Wu-Tang Clan “Protect Ya Neck”

Coming straight out of the 13th chamber is Ason Unique lyrically putting anyone to shame who attempts to bite his style on this timeless Wu-Tang Clan classic, which still shuns the anti-lyricist.

Mariah Carey “Fantasy” feat. O.D.B.

History was made in the relationship between Hip-Hop and Pop when Mariah Carey recruited Ol’ Dirty for her record-breaking boo loving hit “Fantasy.”

Ol’ Dirty Bastard “Shimmy Shimmy Ya”

Heralded as the ultimate anthem of the Wu-Tang emcee, “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” embodies Ol’ Dirty’s most notable lines, “Ooh baby I like it raw,” which is a prime representation of his unadulterated stance.

Wu-Tang Clan “As High As Wu-Tang Get”

Despite not having a verse, his presence trailing the chorus alone is a powerful showcase of the emcee’s half-singing half-spitting mastery.

Pras “Ghetto Superstar” feat. Mya & Ol’ Dirty Bastard

In the late 90s, Hip-Hop/Pop/R&B mash-ups were brewing at large. Post-Fugees prime time, Pras found O.D.B. to be the perfect fit for his everlasting classic with Mya, “Ghetto Superstar.”

Sunz of Man “Shining Star” feat. Ol’ Dirty Bastard

Teaming up with Wu-Tang affiliate collective Sunz of Man, Ol’ Dirty was right in his gritty element as he turned “white boys to Springsteens.”

Ol’ Dirty Bastard “Got Your Money” feat. Kelis

Reigning from his last official solo album Nigga Please, Kelis joins Ol’ Dirty for a tight groove that moulds the moonstruck persona of the one and only O.D.B.

Since his death, the Wu-Tang Clan effortlessly continues to keep the legacy of Ol’ Dirty Bastard alive by featuring old recordings on coming projects. In Wu-Tang’s most recent release Wu-Tang: The Saga Continues, recordings of the late O.D.B. can be heard on th Cappadonna, Masta Killa, Streetlife, and GZA assisted track “If What You Say Is True.”

Michael Jackson’s Thriller is Re-Created in NBA 2K18

TheSource Feed - Mon, 11/13/2017 - 12:22pm

NBA 2K18 gamer and Reddit user, MarLuThaKang got together with a couple of his buddies and re-created Michael Jackson’s iconic “Thriller” video as best as you could expect in NBA 2K18.

When 2K Sports first created the open world ‘The Neighborhood,’ many envision an open world NBA pickup game experience, not a legendary music video reincarnation. Thanks to the good folks at 2K sports and a little imagination, you can have both.

NBA 2K18: Thriller Edition from NBA2k

“[It] took a little over 30 minutes actually,” MarLuThaKang said. “I originally wanted to do one while wearing the “Smooth Criminal” shirt, but unfortunately Swags doesn’t have white fedoras.”

For those gamers unfamiliar with the game mode, ‘The Neighbourhood’ is a place where the creativity comes to life as it’s a place where anything and everything is possible, from shopping for shoes, to joining pickup games, to recreating Micheal Jackson’s “Thriller”.

MarLuThaKang has set the bar for what a little creativity in an open world sports game can look like. It wouldn’t be a shock to many ,if we got more videos by game users going forward. 2K games might want to reach out and thank MarLuThaKang  for opening up a new lane that they didn’t see.

Take Back The Workplace & #MeToo Marches Flood Hollywood

TheSource Feed - Mon, 11/13/2017 - 12:03pm

Sunday (November 12), Take Back The Workplace march took place in Hollywood, with participants flooding Hollywood Boulevard in order to bring attention to workplace harassment in the entertainment industry.

The demonstration began at the Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center. As marchers made their way to the CNN Building on Sunset Boulevard, they chanted in unison, “Two, four, six, eight, we don’t want to see you masturbate,” “Your junk is not my job” and, simply, “Harvey Weinstein sucks.”

The march was organized by comedian Tess Rafferty with the help of the Feminist Majority Foundation, Civican and We for She and attended by hundreds of participants.

In attendance at the Sunday-morning march was one of Weinstein’s first accusers, Lauren Sivan, who previously alleged that the film mogul masturbated in front of her and ejaculated into a potted plant in an empty restaurant kitchen. The local Fox News reporter, who served as the celebrity chair for the march, spoke at a planned press conference outside the CNN Building.

This is 2017, and the time is ripe for a reordering of power. You will no longer keep us quiet or label us ‘gold diggers’ or ‘psychos.’ We want our daughters and sons to be able to go to a workplace and never have to take a meeting with a dude in a bathrobe. They will never have to choose to put out or keep their job.

It’s 17,000 motherf**kers in here tonight. What they gon’ say? What they gon’ say is nobody came tonight because they don’t want me to be this great. They can’t stop me. I can’t be stopped.

The ever blessed and grateful DJ Khaled did warn us to stay away from “they”, and that’s exactly what the Brooklyn mogul intends to do. He continued to drop some more gems about Black people needing to unite more and “get our sh*t together”. Check out the full clip here.

Hi Rihanna: We Love All Sizes of You

TheSource Feed - Mon, 11/13/2017 - 11:03am

Rihanna must be dining on a steady diet of rice and cabbage. We know she occasionally snacks on popcorn while sitting court side at NBA games. Or maybe she enjoys a few Snickers she’s not feeling like herself.

Puma’s Fenty boss has a fancy for an assortment of flavors. She once stopped her car in the middle of the road to enjoy a fresh stalk of corn. Selling platinum records and climbing to the top of the charts requires proper nourishment.

When we first met Riri in 2009, she was a slim and slender island girl whose Bajan musical flavor pleased fans. Closing in on decade on the world stage, life hasn’t always been sugary sweet. Some days she had to prove she could make a good batch of lemonade with life’s lemons. We have seen her weight fluctuate but regardless, we love all shapes and sizes of Rihanna. In addition to her effortless sense of style.

The Source Magazine embraces women from all walks of life. We encourage all the ladies to love themselves and be content with themselves in their natural state. Rihanna is unbothered by the haters and body shammers. We appreciate her uncategorized diet, for it has contributed to thicker hips and thighs. Riri is never scared to flash a little cheek when she wears a bikini.

Looking thicker than a hearty bowl of breakfast oatmeal or thicker than three king-sized Snickers at snack time. Rihanna ain’t missing no meals and we encourage her to eat whatever her heart desires on Thanksgiving. Whether you love her or feel indifferent, you can’t deny that she is comfortable with her body. Her name is associated with the biggest headlines in music, fashion, and now cosmetics. When you can sit comfortably at a table reserved for one, in two of the world’s most most critical industries.

Check out the pictures of the Bajan princess below with a little bit more to love:
